Ingredients

  • Ground Beef (80/20) 1 pound
  • Yellow Onion 0.5 medium
  • Green Bell Pepper 0.5 medium
  • Garlic 2 cloves
  • Ketchup 0.5 cup
  • Tomato Paste 2 tablespoons
  • Worcestershire Sauce 1 tablespoon
  • Brown Sugar 1 tablespoon
  • Dijon Mustard 1 teaspoon
  • Water or Beef Broth 0.25 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • Hamburger Buns 2
  • Vegetable Oil 1 tablespoon

How to Cook

  1. Dice the yellow onion and green bell pepper. Mince the garlic cloves.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the browned beef. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  4. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, water or beef broth, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for 10-12 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  6. While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a separate pan, toaster, or under a broiler until golden brown.
  7. Spoon the hot sloppy joe mixture generously onto the toasted hamburger buns and serve immediately.
