Ingredients
- Ground Beef (80/20) 1 pound
- Yellow Onion 0.5 medium
- Green Bell Pepper 0.5 medium
- Garlic 2 cloves
- Ketchup 0.5 cup
- Tomato Paste 2 tablespoons
- Worcestershire Sauce 1 tablespoon
- Brown Sugar 1 tablespoon
- Dijon Mustard 1 teaspoon
- Water or Beef Broth 0.25 cup
- Salt to taste
- Black Pepper to taste
- Hamburger Buns 2
- Vegetable Oil 1 tablespoon
How to Cook
- Dice the yellow onion and green bell pepper. Mince the garlic cloves.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the browned beef. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables soften.
- Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, water or beef broth, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for 10-12 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a separate pan, toaster, or under a broiler until golden brown.
- Spoon the hot sloppy joe mixture generously onto the toasted hamburger buns and serve immediately.
